UPS
UPS SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION
The traditional UPS system contains the following components: Thyristor, rectifier, inverter and static switching module, a manual bypass switch, transformer, controller as well as a human-machine interface (on the control unit) with screen.
BYPASS
If a system is in bypass mode, the voltage from the bypass mains is supplied directly. Switching over between normal supply and bypass mode can be done manually. Should the supply from the inverter be insufficient, the switchover takes place automatically and without disrupting the voltage.
BYPASS – TRANSFORMER AND STABILISER
If there are differences between the input voltage and the output voltage in the bypass network, some systems include a bypass transformer or stabiliser. The transformers adapts the input voltage to the output voltage; the stabiliser compensates for the network fluctuations and keeps the output voltage stable.

SYSTEM DESIGN, CHARACTERISTICS AND BENEFITS
UPS technology from GUTOR is designed to satisfy requirements with regard to functionality, security and reliability – the main interests of our customers. It has great system flexibility in terms of system design and meets the technical specifications of customers. We produce all our products to conform to internationally and nationally recognised standards and guarantee the highest levels of quality with ISO9001:2000. Some of the main functions and benefits of the design are as follows:

  • Clear operating and monitoring of the functioning
  • Safe operation and maintenance
  • High level of protection against environmental effects
  • Highest level of system availability and reliability
Modular Design
Our system design is modular It enables access to all components from the front as well as from the top. A typical GUTOR UPS unit contains a separate connection field with the input switch and the manual bypass switch. Some components are installed on shelves or hinged panel for simple maintenance.
High integrated control logic
All systems are fitted with microprocessor driven controls, which enable digital processing and the adjustment of all parameters. In order to guarantee reliable functioning, two independent sources – the mains and the battery – supply the controller with power.
HUMAN-MACHINE INTERFACE
AC and DC systems from GUTOR are fitted with a self-explanatory control unit, a flexible human-machine interface, which displays and monitors the system parameters. The control unit is divided into four parts.
  1. The user-specific mimic diagram displays the current mode of operation and gives information on which part of the system is currently supplying the voltage and which is in standby mode.
  2. System main control buttons with lamp test facilities.
  3. The display unit consists of an LCD display, which displays the event recorder, the alarm list, measurements and the mode of operation, and which also has an alarm LED, an acoustic alarm and a keypad.
  4. The alarm display has LEDs, which display system-specific alarm incidents.
INTELLIGENT SYSTEM VENTILATION
GUTOR offers the redundant ventilation concept, “N+1” as standard. In the event that one of the fans fails, the two remaining fans are sufficient to maintain the cooling of the system. With the help of an internal speed sensor, the revolutions of each of the individual fans are also monitored. Should the speed fall below one of the pre-defined tolerance values, an alarm is triggered. The fans can be changed during normal system operation, without any risk to staff or the load.
STANDARDS & QUALITY
THAT ARE RECOGNISED WORLDWIDE
GUTOR supplies products that are designed and manufactured based on standards that are recognised worldwide, such as EN, IEC, IEEE, VDE, SEV, NEMA, ANSI, CSA, UL and FCC.
Internal and external checks guarantee high standards of quality. Our in-house quality management as well as the Veritas office – an external inspection organisation, carry out these checks. GUTOR’s systems and processes undergo customer audits and therefore guarantee qualification for special applications. Customers and inspectors have access to all available reports.

BATTERIES
THE APPROPRIATE TYPE OF BATTERY FOR YOUR REQUIREMENTS
Batteries are a central element in the design of UPS systems. They store energy that is required to guarantee the necessary energy during a power cut. The correct choice of battery is therefore crucial. GUTOR advises and supports clients in all their questions and decisions with regard to the dimensioning of the various types of batteries. We calculate the size of battery based on the individual load profile in accordance with IEEE standards. GUTOR has many years of experience in close cooperation with well-known battery manufacturers as well as in advice and calculations for optimal batteries for the most diverse applications. GUTOR systems are designed for lead as well as nickel-cadmium batteries.

BATTERY MONITORING
In the event of a power cut, it is important that back-up batteries function optimally. Battery monitoring is therefore an effective solution to guarantee the efficiency of batteries and their full capacity. Also, monitoring guarantees the functioning of the entire installation. GUTOR systems have a built-in capacity function for safe discharging and charging tests for batteries as standard. These can be activated via the keypad on the control unit. When the test is started up, the system switches over to battery supply. The commutator remains in standby mode during this period, to enable careful start-up should this be necessary. The entire duration of the discharging is saved in the system for statistical purposes.

Build in Battery Capacity Test
GUTOR also offers an extended battery monitoring system (EBM) as an option, which can be integrated into any system. In comparison with the capacity test, the EBM has different benefits.

Load and capacity test for the battery

Manual or programmable automatic start possible
More detailed monitoring of:
- Available remaining time according to the current load
- Overall battery voltage

Detailed record for analysis

Higher level of system security as only 25% of the overall capacity is taken up wird
